Yes I Can is a vision given by God to show his love for all people and to train places of worship on how to minister to families with special needs.

It began as a journey towards what would be the work God gave my hands to do. During quiet reflection and prayer in the fall of 2001an important part of God’s plan was revealed. While praying for my students and their families God spoke His desire for there to be more help for churches desiring to minister to the special needs population. Although many places were ministering to people with disabilities, there was still more people to be reached. After a meeting with my pastor, Bishop Cornelius Showell it was agreed that there is a need for additional ministry in this area. In the spring of 2002, Yes I Can was presented as a special needs training ministry that would to bring the Gospel to special families everywhere. As parents found out what God was doing, they came forward in tears saying, “I’ve been praying so long for this”.

In the fall of 2001 the ministry team began to take shape and God sent members who were committed to seeing the vision come to pass. During the spring of 2002 this core group participated in an overview training of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, respite care, professionalism, and advocacy skills. The training team came from individuals at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and other professional sites around the Baltimore area. In the fall those core classes graduated and are now serving as members and leadership in YIC.

Yes I Can provides training to churches who desire to minister in this area. We have a variety of resources that we use to assist us during training. The training is free but we do accept free-will donations.

In addition to adaptations/modifications during church services, we also provide advocacy services/training, parent training, respite care, assistive technology, picture schedules, and many more resources. In the future we will be offering transitional adult care facilities, job training and many other services. We will be establishing chapters at any interested church in the United States and abroad.
